Edgar vs Aldo now happening; Koch injured

|

The UFC featherweight division experienced a seismic shift this evening as it was revealed that Erik Koch was injured in training and no longer able to take part in his quest for the championship against Jose Aldo. But in announcement sure to delight fans, it was revealed that taking Koch’s place will be none other than former UFC lightweight champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar.

USA Today first broke the story that Edgar, who is coming off back-to-back razor-thin decision losses to current lightweight champion Benson Henderson, had volunteered to step up in the void left by Koch at UFC 153, set to take place on October 13th in Brazil. UFC President Dana White, still stung by the refusal of Jon Jones to fight and subsequent cancellation of UFC 151, tweeted: “love me some @FrankieEdgar”.

Koch, for his part expressed his regret at not being able to fight on twitter:

I’m sorry guys this has been one crazy year for me deff a hard one, I just wanna thank all of you guys for the support means the world to me

Aldo is the reigning UFC featherweight champion and the only one in the company’s history. He has defended the title three times, with victories over Mark Hominick, Kenny Florian, and Chad Mendes.
