Frank Mir replaces Alistair Overeem against Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146

|

It is no surprise that the UFC has found a replacement for Alistair Overeem, following his positive test for higher than normal testosterone levels earlier this month. UFC President Dana White tweeted the announcement tonight.

Taking off to Atlanta!!!! May 26 is now Mir vs JDS for the HW title in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand.

Many people believed that Mir would be the logical replacement, but now it is official.

The news comes just days before Alistair Overeem’s Nevada State Athletic Commission hearing. It is obvious that the UFC believes that his argument this Tuesday in front of the NSAC will not be significant enough to grant him a license.

With UFC 146 going down on May 26, this gives the organization enough time to put their full effort into pumping the new title fight.

Mir was originally scheduled to face Cain Velasquez, but no word on Velasquez’ opponent has been announced.
