Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson could go down at UFC 149 in Calgary

|

At today’s (April 24) UFC 147 special announcement press conference, UFC Dana White changed a few things up. First of which was the main event of UFC 147 between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen being moved to UFC 148 in Vegas.

Next up, he stated that UFC 147 would still be taking place on June 23rd in Brazil and a possible main event was hometown boy Jose Aldo. Which in turn would lead to the main event slot of UFC 149 being left open.

It didn’t take White long to clear the water for that, by stating “Dan Henderson vs Jones could be a possibility. Jones just fought and his hands are sore. We’ll just wait a few weeks and then figure out what could be the main event in Calgary. That could be awesome. ”

So, depending on how Jones’ recovery from his five round war with Rashad Evans this past weekend at UFC 145 goes, Calgary could get one giant title fight.

Jones, who is known as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world would have exactly three months to prepare for the bout in Calgary. The champ is coming off his seventh straight win and his third consecutive title defense.

Henderson has had quite the run over the last little while, going 7-1 at 3 different weight classes. He hasn’t fought since UFC 139 when he defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in a five round war, which many called the best fight in MMA history.  He then decided to wait to fight until the UFC gave him a title shot at either middleweight or light heavyweight.
