UFC Undisputed 3 Simulates Lesnar vs. Overeem

Tags: , , ,

This time around THQ has simulated the UFC 141 main event between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem using UFC Undisputed 3. UFC 141 goes down on December 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to the simulation Overeem will have his hand held as the victor. They are predicting he wins by KO in the very first round. They simulated the fight 25 times using the AI and these are the stats thanks to BloodyElbow.com.

- 25 simulated matches. 13 won by Overeem, 12 by Lesnar

- Lesnar attempted a total of 287 takedowns (11.5 per fight)

- Lesnar and Overeem “rocked” each other an equal amount of times in the 25 bouts.

- Lesnar won two bouts via arm triangle.

- 92% (12 of 13) of the bouts Overeem won were by knockout.

Commission (NSAC) Grants Overeem Conditional License

Tags: , , , ,

Alistair Overeem will be having a phone conversation with the Nevada State Athletic Commission for reasons that have not been announced to the public yet. During the UFC 140 broadcast the MMA world was set a buzz due to a tweet sent out that stated Overeem would be out of his fight against Brock Lesnar at UFC 141 on Dec. 30.

Questions are coming in to play as to Overeem flying home to Holland to deal with his ailing mother.

We will see whether Overeem will receive his official license to fight on Dec.30.

Below are highlights thanks to MMAmania.com

-Alistair Overeem is on the line from Holland. It’s late there, which makes it even stupider that they waited this long into the conference to talk to him.

-On the 17th of November, they requested a test with Alistair Overeem and the next day, they were informed there was no place for Lesnar to be tested. Lesnar went to a hospital three days later than they would have liked but he tested and was fine. They didn’t hear back from Overeem’s camp for several days, not until the 21st and they were informed he had flown back to Holland. Overeem, I believe the 23rd eventually did take a test but all he did was a blood test which was not what they asked for.

-They received the blood test on the 30th and all levels were normal, but it wasn’t the urine test they requested.

-From the sounds of it, Overeem went to Holland to be with his sick mother at 6 p.m. on the day he was notified of his test he needed to take.

-Overeem took an observed urine test on December 7th, but the results aren’t back yet.

-The commission finds it ‘somewhat incredulous’ that Overeem couldn’t find a proper testing facility for five days in an advanced country like Holland

-Overeem has been sworn in and has promised to tell the truth.

-Overeem apologizes for the situation. He says there were three factors involved: 1: His mother’s situation and moving his camp to Holland. 2: this was his first UFC fight and 3: The testing procedures in Holland vary compared to the testing procedures in America. He says he took a streroid test immediately upon hearing they wanted it. He got the results 10 days later and was informed by NSAC that he needed another test.

-Overeem says he took his blood test with his own doctor. The commission questions why they weren’t done in a lab.

-Overeem says he’s never taken steroid test like this before so this is new to him.

-Overeem says he was informed of his mother’s condition two days before he left. He did the UFC Countdown show first before flying out. He finished taping and went straight to the airport.

-Overeem says he was informed by his assistant about the test either Saturday or Sunday but didn’t find out that he had to take the test immediately until even later. He says he had no knowledge about the NSAC requesting a test before he flew to Holland on the 17th.

-Overeem took his first test in a facility and took a blood sample. He says they asked for the blood sample, he gave them one and he thought he was done. When he got the results, he sent them to his assistant who then sent the results to Keith Kizer. He heard that the test was insufficient from his assistant and that he’d have to redo the test. He says he redid the test the next morning.

-Overeem says he was informed that he had to retake the test one week ago on Tuesday, the 6th of December and then he went in for another test on the 7th of December.

-Overeem, under oath, says he made no efforts to avoid taking the tests and that he did everything his assistants relayed to him. He’s doing a lot of deflecting onto his assistants.

-Overeem says he bought the ticket to get back to Holland on the 15th. This could be his saving grace, we’ll see.

-Overeem says he’s never had to take it upon himself to take a test before. He just provided urine samples before and after fights for the commission at the venue.

-Overeem’s assistant is on the line. We’ll see if he lies down on a sword for him. He admits that he’s got a full-time job on the side of being his assistant and is based in San Francisco.

-Assistant says he called to inform Overeem’s manager, he didn’t pick up. He sent an e-mail with the message. He says he didn’t hear about a timeframe that Overeem needed to take the test upon being informed.

-Assistant says he doesn’t work with other athletes and hasn’t dealt with commissions before.

-Overeem says he didn’t do any testing with the UFC when he went under contract with them for this fight.

-They will go into deliberations now.

-Commission says there was an unfortunate lack of urgency coming from Overeem and his camp in response to the random steroid test request.

-It sounds like they are going to grant Overeem a license conditionally. He’ll have to take more tests and then be tested for the next six months.

-The commission is also discussing future punitive measures if you don’t respond and take your test in a timely manner.

-If Overeem’s test taken on December 7th is negative and if he takes post-fight tests after UFC 141 as well as up to six months later, they will approve him. Failure to provide the samples could be cause for revoking.

-They bring up a motion about Overeem getting licensed but it fails to be seconded. They deliberate more.

-New motion is brought up. Overeem will get a conditional license but must take a new test at an independent facility within 72 hours, must be tested again once he arrives in the United States and must take random tests for the next year at his own expense. It is approved and Overeem has been granted a license.

UPDATE: UFC 141: Rumors of Overeem Out of Main Event Still Out There

Tags: , , ,

No matter how much Dana White wants to deny the rumours of Alistair Overeem being taken off the UFC 141 Main Event, those rumors are still flying. I’m of the belief that where there is smoke there is fire. It all started when Kevin Iole from Yahoo/Sports sent out a tweet near the end of UFC 140.

Kevin Iole tweeted:

Hearing could be a change in UFC 141 main event. Overeem may be out of the fight.”

That tweet alone sent shock waves through the UFC Universe but what made it even more interesting was when Josh Gross from ESPN added more fuel to the fire with his tweet.

On Sunday, Gross tweeted:

“White denies Overeem is off the Lesnar card. But Alistair is on Mon.’s NSAC agenda. I’ve heard possibly in connection w/ prefight drug test.”

Again we can’t say this enough this is only rumour but after carefully checking the NASC agenda Alistair Overeem is on the list. Now whether that has to do with a licensing technicality, or a failed drug test has not yet been determined. Overeem has been under the gun for years about apparent PED abuse. He went from being a small Light Heavyweight to a giant of a man. He attributes most of that muscle mass to eating a diet that is high in protein and calories like horse meat.  Maybe Alistair and Barry Bonds ate at the same restaurant. There are many people out there who believe that Overeem still uses some sort of PED. It wouldn’t be a big shock to many if “The Reem” tests positive for some sort of banned substance.

We will know more this afternoon about the status of the UFC 141 Main Event. You can’t blame Dana White for denying the rumours as maybe  the UFC is still probably trying to figure out what they are going to do if Overeem is told that he can’t fight at 141. Also the denial is another way to say “no comment” because the UFC won’t know until the Nevada State Athletic Commission comes down with their ruling. Another rumour circulating is that Frank Mir could be a late fill in to save the Main Event at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on December 30th.

Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir 3 would not only be a great replacement fight, but it could still give either fighter a chance at becoming the number one contender for a shot at the UFC Heavyweight title. Of course Mir would have to pass a strict medical exam, since he just fought at UFC 140 where he did take a few big shots to the head before brutally submitting “Big Nog” with a vicious Kimura. If Mir is cleared we could finally see the rubber match that both fighters have wanted for a while.

Personally, I’d like to see the current Main Event saved. Let’s hope that NSAC hearing this afternoon is about a technicality and not about another failed drug test. The sport really doesn’t need the bad press, and the UFC doesn’t need more musical chairs when it comes to money making Main Event.

For the record Alistair Overeem has abandoned his training in Las Vegas and has flown back to Denmark. That alone seems to be bizarre but he has stated it’s because he wants to be with a sick family member.

We shall see.

UPDATE: Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer had this to say about the rumors:

This will likely be cleared up on Monday as Overeem is scheduled to apply for his license before the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Usually fighters licenses are rubber stamped unless there is an extenuating circumstance. People have noted Overeem, Keith Jardine and Vladimir Matyushenko all have license hearings on Monday, but in the case of the latter two, it is standard procedure for fighters over 35 to take more extensive medical tests and the process for granting the license isn’t rubber stamped. Overeem’s name on the list means there is a reason he needs to be there that is not specified, and Overeem is not over 35 years old.

Dana White denied Overeem was injured when asked and also that anything has changed regarding the fight. There is nothing going around about an injury that we’ve heard to begin with. Overeem left Las Vegas, where he had been training, to return to Holland. He said in his yahoo.com blog that it was because his mother had cancer. Regarding a steroid test, we’ve been able to confirm that Lesnar was asked to take a test a few weeks back and did. It is usual practice in Nevada if they are going to do a random unannounced pre-fight test of a major main event, they will test both fighters.

Several major MMA reporters including Kevin Iole and Josh Gross have hinted something is amiss and there were strong rumors last night that Mir would face Lesnar, even though White denied them. If it regards a pending hearing that hasn’t happened, while behind the scenes White would no doubt be preparing for any outcome, he has to publicly say the fight is on, because right now, the fight is on. Mir said he was willing to take the fight.

Nik Lentz Submitted Brock Lesnar, Then Thrown Across Room “WWE-Style”

Tags: , ,

Brock Lesnar

During a radio interview with “The Verbal Submission”. Nik Lentz confessed to having the privilege of training with Brock Lesnar. Initially, you may think “Wow, that’s awesome!” However once you read what actually went down with Lesnar, you may have a slight change of heart. Lentz admitted to being soaked in Lesnar sweat and submitting the giant of a man. He also admitted to only training with him that one time as he was thrown across the room “WWE-style”.

“I did roll with him one time and number one, it was really gross because the dude sweats like a ridiculous amount so I was just covered in Brock Lesnar sweat, like just dripping in his own sweat but then he was kinda messing around and I jumped on a guillotine and I wound up eventually tapping him out and then he actually got kinda angry and the next time that we started, he just picked me up above his head WWE-style and like threw me across the room so that was the end of my training with Brock. I got him one time. I jumped on the guillotine because he wasn’t ready for it and I choked him out and then after that I got thrown across the room.” -  Transcription by MMAMania.com

Luckily for Lesnar, he is not fighting a submission specialist in his next match. Brock Lesnar will take on another giant, in Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 on December 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Junior Dos Santos: Brock Lesnar Has More Chances to Win, in the Beginning of the Fight

Tags: , , ,

On December 30 at UFC 141,  Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem will go toe-to-toe to see who will take on newly crowned UFC heavyweight champion, Junior Dos Santos.

Dos Santos sat down and chat with ESPN Brazil about the upcoming heavyweight clash. He mentions that he doesn’t care who wins and he will be ready to fight.

“I think Brock and Alistair Overeem’s fight is going to be a really good fight because they are [both] huge and they are very strong guys. With the beginning of the fight, Brock Lesnar has more chances to win, in the beginning of the fight. I think maybe it will be a hard fight for both of them. For sure it’s going to be a good fight and I will be ready to fight [the winner]. I want to fight with the best. But I don’t care who is gonna win and be my next opponent. I don’t care about that.” – transcribed by 5th Round

Alistair Overeem: Impressed by Lesnar’s Fighting Spirit

Tags: , ,

The former Strikeforce, Dream, and K-1 Champion, Alistair Overeem will fight the former UFC heavyweight champion on December 30. Overeem is riding an amazing 11 fight win streak, which resulted in the UFC offering him an immediate title shot. However, he decided to opt out of that for the fight with Lesnar. The upcoming fight at UFC 141 will be a number one contender fight to see who will take on heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos at some point in 2012.

Overeem spoke with USA Today about his upcoming fight and how he is not underestimating Lesnar at all.

I think I have earned a UFC world title fight, by winning every major title outside the UFC, but I am here to prove that I am – without question – the best heavyweight on the planet. You don’t do that sitting on the sidelines or working out in the gym, you do that by fighting and beating the best available opposition in the biggest fights that can be made. Myself vs. Lesnar is a huge fight and I jumped at the chance to fight him.

But, I don’t underestimate this man. Winning UFC belt from Randy Couture in his fourth pro MMA fight and defending it against Frank Mir and Shane Carwin was very impressive. I am also impressed by Lesnar’s fighting spirit; he has twice come back from a very serious illness and fought very tough opposition right away. He obviously has a lot of confidence in himself in fighting me after more than a year out and surgery on his stomach, and I admire that about him, but I am even more confident in myself. I will knock this guy out… I am going to rip Brock Lesnar apart, piece by piece.

What do you Sucka’s think? Will Overeem be able to dominate Lesnar on the feet? Will he be able to stop the takedown?
