Marcus Brimage – TUF 14 Video Blog : Episode 4

Tags: ,

This week was a double dose of fights and in this weeks video blog Marcus Brimage chats about both of them and the fact that Team Bisping is now 0-4 in the competition. He also chats about the fact that Bisping didn’t show up to the weigh-ins and also his coaching style.

Here is an excerpt from Marcus’ Fighters.com Blog, to read more click here.

For those who are wondering, no, we never got an explanation from Michael Bisping for his absence from the weigh-in on this past week’s episode. It was very weird. As a fighter you want to believe in your corner, you need to know your corner will be there for you at all times. It’s a trust issue for fighters. So when the guy who is supposed to be in your corner is not there at the weigh-ins, it’s kind of like, “WTF?”

Marcus Brimage TUF 14 Video Blog: Episode 3

Tags: , ,

This episode starts off with our video blogger Marcus Brimage causing a ruckus at the gym with Diego Brandao. The two were battling back and forth with each other, when Coach Bisping had to step in. This weeks vlog he chats about the episode and obviously the fight at hand which was between Johnny Bedford and Josh Ferguson.

Marcus had lost a bet on the Jones vs. Rampage fight, pictures to come of what he had to do.

Here is an excerpt from his blog over at Fighters.com to read the rest click here.

The tension you saw during those sparring sessions was something that happens pretty commonly when you’re working with guys who you aren’t totally familiar with as teammates. People who watched the episode saw how Akira Corassani acts. When we were working together he zapped me so I zapped him back. And then we just started going real hard from that point on. So there was some frustration there but it wasn’t anything like the issue I had with Diego Brandao where we almost got to really fighting.

Mayhem Miller: I Am The Most Proud Of This Season

Tags: , , , ,

When you think of Jason “Mayhem” Miller, a lot of people think of the situation in Nashville in April of 2010. Perception should change this season as Miller along with Michael Bisping are the coaches for Season 14 of the Ultimate Fighter, which starts tonight with a two hour premeire at 9ET/8CT on Spike TV.

Miller was supposed to fight Aaron Simpson at UFC 132 in July and then lobbied to coach on the upcoming season as Chael Sonnen was supposed be one of the coaches, but could not get cleared due to suspension.

“Hell, I asked for it,”Miller told us. “I had tweeted to Dana White that I’ll do it. I knew Chael was going to have problems and he did, so I said I’ll do it. The power of Twitter and I magically got called up.”

A lot of fans haven’t been fans of Bisping for one reason or another, but Miller was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. That however, lasted only a short amount of time.

“You know man, I didn’t even know his past,” said Miller. “I went in with a clear head, I didn’t watch the show (with Bisping), so I didn’t know what was going to happen. I didn’t know what Michael Bisping was like really. We have mutual friends, so they say he’s not a bad guy. Well man, he proved them wrong on the show. I can’t wait to smash his face in on December 3rd. Its gunna be awesome.”

How long did it take Mayhem to not like Bisping?

“Oh man, like pretty much like a day or two,” said Miller. I didn’t talk to him for that first day and I still didn’t like him. Man, he just has an arrogant heir that he only cares about himself and it comes through. Just watch the damn show, your gunna hate him more than you already did.”

UFC President Dana White has made statements recently saying the fights coming up tonight are the best ever and Miller backs up his bosses claims.

“They are, I was shocked,” said Miller. “I was like, How the hell, every fight is good to get into the house. Every fight was exciting, every fight had a little dramatic art to it. I was like, this is crazy. You got to see some really talented dudes go out and fight. It was amazing.”

You hear a lot of fighters say after they compete on the show, that they take something from the coaches. Miller thinks he was able to impact them in the six weeks of taping.

“All the guys coming in already knew how to fight,” said Miller. “They needed gameplanning and that kind of thing. That’s what we really focused on and in addition we focused on some rules and some specific techiques that we would use in the cage. I feel like I did a good job. I did the best job I could of shaping these guys games around and what they needed to do in the fight. I am really proud. In my whole life, I am the most proud of this season of The Ultimate Fighter because I really worked my ass off to make sure that I gave everything to the guys and held nothing back.”

In retrospect, did his view on Bisping change when the show concluded?

‘The same one I did, the first or second day of being there,” said Miller. “It was like man, what an arrogant prick and I can’t wait to beat him up.”

The Ultimate Fighter 14 ‘Team Bisping vs. Team Miller’ Conference Call Highlights

Tags: , , ,

Today the UFC held a telephone conference call for The Ultimate Fighter 14 with both coaches, Michael Bisping and Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller. The two bantered back and forth with eachother and made this conference call one of the most memorable in a long time.

Below are highlights from the call.

Jason Miller

- I didn’t like him at first, then I liked him. Now I’m back to hating him again.

- I definitely got under his skin…apart from the unbelievable fights…our personality clash put on a damn good show…

- I think you’re way worse an idiot than I am…

- My first priority was to give full attention to coaching these guys and second to make entertaining television…

- Bisping fully proved himself to be a prick by week 2

- It wasn’t the normal crop of TUF crowd who were 2-0…some of these guys had 30 fighters…we didn’t have one lackluster fight the entire season…

- There were some upsets that some of the media have heard of, but guess what? They’re not coming into the house.

- It comes down to what’s best for my career, me vs. Bisping is going to be way better for the UFC. This is going to be huge for the TUF franchise. Just looking as a TV viewer, I’m totally enthralled with it.

- They just stuck the camera on us and we made good TV. I contributed to Lesnar’s season of TUF not having any ratings, I didn’t watch.

- I put 100% of my effort into this job.

- The amount of time stuck with a camera in your face and a microphone up your ass…I was used to television being a more controlled thing.

- A lot of his coaching staff are guys I used to train with and had to move on because they couldn’t give me what I needed.

Michael Bisping

- Jason, you have 15 different personalities. You either love or hate him. I definitely hate him…December 3rd I’m going to kick his ass, so it’s all good.

- This season is all real fighters. They weren’t there for air time…it was a good season, my team did a good job and I feel I represented myself pretty well.

- After a day the team gels, they open up to one another…many fighters told me how shocked they were that I did care about the team…it’s not about me or Jason…it’s about giving these guys a shot at the big time…

- Miller’s annoying for a completely different reason (than Jorge Rivera)…it wasn’t just Rivera, it was him and his entire team…they crossed the line talking to family…Jason’s not like that, he’s just idiotic…his mouth is definitely bigger than his brain…

- Nice to see you’ve warmed up on your sister, Jason.

- I always give people the benefit of the doubt…we have a few mutual friends…the first couple of days before shooting starts and the more time I spent around him the more he irritated me…you’ll see why he isn’t on my Christmas card list..

- Coaching lighter weight guys is a double edged sword…the downside is when I’m coaching you saw in season 9 I’m on the mat, but with the size difference this time I couldn’t do that…had to do a lot of coaching from the sidelines…

- You didn’t have to show these fighters too many things…these were complete fighters, they just needed guidance and structure.

- There was never any hesitation in accepting the role as coach…in my opinion, that role is very prestigious…the reality is there is a downside: it means 10 months out of the game, it means taking a fight against Jason Miller.

- Anderson Silva hasn’t wiped out the middleweight division yet; I match up well with him and better than some of these other fighters have.

- This season I was myself, I didn’t pull any punches, I didn’t go on a PR campaign to get more fans.

- Jason’s already beaten mentally. It’ll be my job to show up to the fight and collect a paycheck.

- As of right now I’m living in California. The plan for the training camp is to spend a month in California and then somewhere else yet to be determined…I’m still very much part of the Wolfslair.

The Ultimate Fighter Will Now Be LIVE On Fox

Tags: ,

All i can say is “Wow”. The television show that brought the sport to where it is today will now go LIVE! It launched the careers of Forrest Griffin, Josh Koscheck, Diego Sanchez, Rashad Evans and many many more.

The press conference today which announced the partnership between Fox and the UFC was monumental for the organization. When The Ultimate Fighter moves over to Fox they are making a fresh start and making the show live.

There will be a two hour season premiere with fighters facing off in an all or nothing fight. After coaches pick their teams, they choose who’s eligible for each bout and the audience gets to have a voice in selecting who will fight as well. Each episode will be a countdown to the fight. The raw live aftermath of the winners and losers will be brought home as well. After 12 episodes of live fights, the season culminates in an all-live finale to crown the next champion.

How cool is it that the fans will now have an opportunity to decide which two fighters will duke it out on live tv?

Spike TV States TUF 14 Will Be “Our Last”

Tags: ,

Earlier this week there were reports that the UFC has signed a deal with Fox Sports and this morning in mear minutes there will be a press conference to announce that deal. It seems as if Spike TV has stepped ahead of the UFC and made this statement.

“The Ultimate Fighter” season 14 in September will be our last. We are increasing our commitment to distinctive, original series that we own such as “Auction Hunters” and “Bar Rescue” which are delivering on our goal to reach a broader audience. Our 6-year partnership with the UFC has been incredibly beneficial in building both our brands, and we wish them all the best in the future.

Does this mean that Spike will no longer air MMA or do they add another organization? What are your thoughts?
